Local Rules

Mobile Billboard Rules in Tucson

Short version: driving a route is generally the safe format in Tucson; parking to display is where the rules bite.

Tucson's Unified Development Code 7A.10.1.C prohibits signs on trucks, cars, trailers and other vehicles unless all conditions are met. The conditions include: the vehicle's primary purpose is not displaying signs, signs are painted on or applied within the vehicle outline, the vehicle is actively used in the business, it is not used mainly as a static display, and it is not parked with signs showing during more than five days of inactivity. UDC 7A.8.2 also prohibits animated, intensely lit and moving signs. On its face this conflicts with a vehicle whose main purpose is advertising, but how the city applies it to trucks moving on public streets was not confirmed. Check with Tucson Planning & Development Services.

Your operator plans the route, parking and timing around these rules and any event-day restrictions.

FAQ

Mobile Billboard Advertising in Tucson: Questions

Does Tucson's sign code allow mobile billboard trucks?
Tucson's UDC 7A.10.1.C allows vehicle signs only when the vehicle's primary purpose is not displaying signs, and it prohibits animated or intensely lit signs. How this applies to a truck driving on public streets should be confirmed with the city before a campaign.
Is the Tucson Gem Show in one location?
No. During late January and February, dozens of separate shows run at hotels, tents and venues across the city, many along the I-10 frontage road. The official Tucson Gem and Mineral Show at the Tucson Convention Center typically closes out the season.
How much does mobile billboard advertising cost in Tucson?
On Legion-built trucks, shared monthly routes typically run $995 to $3,495 per 4-week cycle depending on rotation frequency, and exclusive takeovers run about $800 for 2 hours, $1,400 for 4 hours and $2,500 for 8 hours. Event campaigns are quoted per event. The operator serving your area confirms exact pricing.
Who runs the truck for a Tucson campaign?
Campaigns run through operators in the Legion network. Your request is matched by campaign ZIP code to an operator who serves the Tucson area, and that operator confirms availability, the route and your creative.
How do I know my ad actually ran?
Legion trucks run ScreenFleet, which logs every ad play with a timestamp and the truck’s GPS location. Your delivery report is built from that proof-of-play data.
